It’s finally time to explore beyond our backyards again! To help you discover endless summer adventures we’ve put together 3 of our favourite adventurous BC road trips for you to head out on!

These trips will take you through the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, and along the spectacular Highway 99 north through Whistler. You’ll find delicious eats, jaw-dropping scenery, mountain-top to water-side adventures, wildlife viewing, and more.

Grab your road trip snacks, buckle up and get ready for epic summer adventures!

Big Wall Picnic and Rock Climbing Adventure in Squamish

1. Sea-To-Sky Highway Road Trip Itinerary

This loop starts in the lower mainland, up Highway 99 through Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton, up to Lillooet before you head south through Lytton, Hope, and back to the lower mainland – with plenty of adventurous stops along the way. 

Here’s a road trip that has something for everyone. Head to Squamish and take in its burgeoning restaurant scene from ocean front dining in downtown Squamish to the mountain top restaurant at the Sea to Sky Gondola.

Once you’re fueled up get ready for a truly adventurous start to your trip by spending the night on a cliff! If you prefer to keep your adventure at sea level, opt for an Elaho Exhilarator White Water Rafting Adventure or Scenic Twilight Float.

Bear Safaris in Whistler Olympic Park Adventure in Whistler

Squamish to Whistler

After a night spent with an unbelieve view of the howe sound inlet, head up the highway to Whistler and experience the village life with so much adventure on your doorstep. From 4×4 Bear Safari’s & Jeep Tours with Yervana Local, Sherry to world class mountain biking, ziplining, and mountain top hiking.

Whistler to Pemberton

Next stop, Pemberton. Make sure to stop at at one of Pembertons quaint restaurants or farmhouse dining options before continuing through the Duffey Lake route to Lillooet. Take in the history as Lillooet was formerly known as Mile 0 on the Gold Rush Trail, there is lots of history to uncover!

Pemberton to Lower Mainland

From here, you can head south on Highway 12 through Lytton, and then through the Fraser Canyon. Take a different route from Hope that winds through Agassiz and Harrison Mills and the Kilby Historic Site before arriving back in the Lower Mainland.

2. Okanagan Road Trip Itinerary

This loop starts in the lower mainland, along HWY 1 through Lytton, Kamloops, and Chase, and then south through Vernon and Kelowna to Osoyoos, Manning, Hope and back to the lower mainland – with adventure in the front seat at each stop along the way. 

Hello wine country! While the Okanagan is a wine lover’s paradise it is also an adventure playground for all kinds of explorers! From spectacular scenery, pristine lakes, beautiful beaches and not to mention the picture perfect drive up on the Coquihalla highway.

Explore all of the peaks and valleys in Kamloops by foot, bike, paddle, or boat! Stop over in Kamloops for the night or a few with so much adventure to be found, this untapped adventurous playground has so much to offer.

Hit the famous Kamloops Wine Trail and discover what makes the Okanagan a world-class winery destination! For the ultimate Kamloops adventure, head out with Yervana Local, Terri on her Wineries & Wildlife Tour where she’ll take you to the some of the best Kamloops wineries and visit the British Columbia Wildlife Park!

Kamloops to Kelowna

After you’ve hit up all the adventure you can handle, continue your road trip east through Chase, and then make a stop in one of the delightful towns along the way for a dip in the Shuswap Lake. Next, head south through the Okanagan to Vernon and Kelowna for more adventure and of course, wineries!

Kelowna to Osoyoos

From there, you can head to Osoyoos and spend some well deserved down time at the lake, rent bikes to tour the area or hike through the desert landscape!

When you’re ready to head back home, make your way to Manning Park, and take some time to view the picturesque Othello Tunnels in Hope before heading all the way home.

3. Vancouver Island Road Trip Itinerary

This loop starts by taking the ferry over to Nanaimo, heading up the coast to Parksville, along the Pacific Rim Highway to Tofino before heading back across the island through the Cowichan Valley and ending in Victoria to take the ferry back over to the mainland – with culinary delights and exhilarating wilderness adventures along the way. 

Start your road trip by crossing from the mainland over to Nanaimo where you can spend days exploring beaches by foot or by bike. From there you can head up the coastline towards Parksville which is ideal for a day trip, or bring the camping gear and hang out for a few days. 

Parksville to Ucluelet

From Parksville you’ll want to make your way inland along HWY 4, on route towards Ucluelet, just a short 15 minute drive from Parksville make your first stop at Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park. This lush, ancient forest is part of a rare ecosystem with trees up to 800 years old! You don’t want to miss this!

From there continue making your way towards Ucluelet stopping along the way for snacks and viewpoints you spot from the road. 

Once you reach Ucluelet, take a day or two to enjoy the many stunning beaches, quaint cafes, hikes, and coastline. Ucluelet has an internationally acclaimed sea kayaking destination just off its coast called the Broken Group Islands! Composed of over 100 islands, islets, and rocky outcrops nestled in the heart of the Barkley Sound, is not to be missed! This breathtaking archipelago located just a short boat ride outside Ucluelet features natural white sand beaches and calm ocean waves perfect for kayaking. 

Ucluelet to Cowichan Valley

Once you’ve explored to your heart’s content in Ucluelet and Tofino, make your way back along HWY 4. Be sure to take it slow through the mountain passes while you enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery on route to explore the Cowichan Valley! 

Explore the Cowichan Valley from farm to table dining, lakes, and lush forest – Cowichan Valley is made for summer relaxation and exploration! Yervana Local, Erika is your go-to whether you want to explore the wineries, breweries, or float down the famous Cowichan Valley River.

Cowichan Valley to Victoria

End your road trip in the beautiful city of Victoria before hopping on a ferry to return to the mainland.
