Sometimes you just want to escape the hustle and bustle for an afternoon outside- and that’s where Vancouver’s outdoor fitness scene gets exciting. With a new wave of health and fitness activities becoming available, there’s no better time to take your exercise regime outside.

As a city, we embrace the outdoors as a huge part of our culture, using any excuse we can to breathe fresh air. These 4 Vancouver based fitness adventures will help you maintain a healthy work-life balance, without straying too far from the office.

1. Trail Running

One of the easiest outdoor activities for reconnecting with nature is trail running. Whether you have 1 or 3 hours to spare, rest assured there is a trail run for you. If you live in downtown Vancouver, a quick trip across the Lionsgate Bridge will land you in trail-rich territory – the North Shore. Here, you can embark on short, long, easy, or difficult trail runs based on how much time you have or your fitness level.

Planning your route can be a bit daunting, but our North Shore Locals have extensive knowledge of the trail systems. They can help you navigate suitable trails, plus their length and difficulty levels.

2. Outdoor Fitness Bootcamps

If you live in Vancouver, finding time to get out of the city centre for a full body workout during the week can be tricky. But that doesn’t mean you need to stick to stuffy indoor gyms and give up on finding a beautiful spot to get your sweat on. Join an epic outdoor bootcamp that takes you to some of Downtown Vancouver’s prettiest spots. You’ll stop at various locations to work your muscles in the glow of golden hour.

Led by Yervana Local, Joslynn Bay, a certified kinesiologist and personal trainer, you’ll be sure to end the evening exhausted after her HIIT warmup, workout, and cool down.

Making outdoor fitness accessible to everyone is important, especially in the city where contact with nature is more limited. Any and all fitness levels are welcome – our brilliant Joslynn has all sorts of tricks for making sure everyone gets the workout that’s right for them!

3. Road Riding

Cycling is a great way to both spice up your daily commute, and work fitness into your everyday routine while enjoying the outdoors. For a fresh route around the city, consider embarking on a road-ride Adventure.

For those new to road cycling, it can be daunting if you don’t have much experience around cars, which is why our Local Richard is here to help. He can introduce you to road riding, share the best cycling routes in Vancouver, and technical tips to improve your ride. If you find yourself with limited spare time to explore new areas, Richard’s expertise will lead you straight to the good stuff while giving your legs a good workout.

4. Outdoor Yoga

Yoga is great for your body, but also helps recharge your brain by reducing stress and anxiety. These things can build up when you have a busy week, so it’s important to find the time to unwind. What better setting to exercise than a mid-week flow yoga session with a magnificent rooftop view of Vancouver’s False Creek! Brad’s yoga classes are perfect for some after-work-reflection and stretching to get you ready for the rest of the work week.
