The summer is here and Calgary is a must-see destination during the hotter months. With events like the Stampede, endless music festivals and easy access to the outdoors, Calgary doesn’t disappoint. While the city is brimming with exciting activities and sites to explore, its close proximity to the Canadian Rocky Mountains means Calgary is an ideal base for both outdoor enthusiasts and city lovers looking for an adventure in the outdoors.

Things To Do in Calgary

Whatever you choose to visit Calgary for, make sure you set aside some time to get to know both the locals and the local terrain. 

Here are our recommendations for sweet summer Calgary Adventures: 

Foothills Hiking and Distillery Tour

When you visit the Rocky Mountain Foothills, you’re in Cowboy Country! Calgary local, Carol, will take you to the Bar U Ranch and show you what it’s like to live on a working ranch. Once you get your foot in the door, you’ll head to the Eau Claire Distillery for a tour and tasting.

Public Art Cycle Tour

Get inside the heart of Calgary when you join this 4-hour bike tour with Calgary local, Carol. Not only will you see lesser known statues and murals (modern and historic), but you will also get a chance to stop at a local’s favorite pastry shop in Calgary’s East Village! 

Escape The City and Explore Alberta

With Banff just a short 1hr 30 drive away, you’ll also find some exciting Adventure options on Calgary’s doorstep! Head out into the beautiful Bow Valley to explore Bragg Creek, Banff, Canmore and Kananaskis (you can even get a bus there if you aren’t renting a car for your trip) for a heap of outdoor Adventures. From hiking to rock climbing, fossil exploration to mountain biking, we’ve got your back!

A Year-Round Hot Spot

And, remember, Calgary isn’t only a summer destination. This city is busy year-round with festivals, sports and more. Think about signing up for a marathon next spring, taking to the slopes or snowshoe trails in winter or attending a wine and food festival in the fall. How to Get Around

There are a few ways to get yourself to Calgary. If you’re travelling within Canada/North America, the drive can be extremely scenic! You also have the opportunity to take the train in (consider looking into VIA Rail). Although flying to YYC – the Calgary International Airport – may be the quickest option (depending on where you’re coming from). Once you arrive, there are public transit options, apps like Uber, taxi cabs and car rentals to help you get around. If you’re travelling from Calgary to Banff for a day or two, there are also daily shuttles you can book!
